Bipolar pencils are single-piece injection molded – solid throughout. The solid single-piece construction eliminates potential fluid seepage that could lead to a product failure.
The seamless design provides electrical insulation to the internal components. The exterior surface has a knurled finish that gives a non-slip grip. An indicator is located at 12:00 on the front end and confirms the orientation of the tip. In addition, the single-piece design allows the pencil to be injection molded with autoclavable materials for repeated use as well as low cost disposable materials. Most of the bipolar pencil product line is available in both reusable and disposable styles. Kirwan Surgical manufactures a variety of bipolar pencils for performing pinpoint hemostasis in delicate tissue structures. The main feature of the bipolar pencil is the insulated wire and sleeve that form the coaxial harness assembly. The harness assembly extends from the rear pins and continues out the front of the instrument. The area of coagulation is restricted to the space between the two elements. This permits discrete coagulation without excessive damage to peripheral tissue structures. Bipolar pencils are manufactured in a variety of styles and wire gauges, including: 18 gauge, 20 gauge, 20/23 gauge tapered, 23 gauge and 25 gauge. Reusable pencils: The tip configurations and working lengths vary throughout the product line and, like all Kirwan reusable products, the features of the reusable bipolar pencils can be customized to suit any specific surgical indication. |
